Classroom Expectations and Policies

Classroom Expectations:

1. Try your best every day.

2. Tell an adult when something is wrong so they can help you.

3. Be respectful of all people and things.

4. Follow directions the first time.

 

Communication:

I will utilize ClassDojo for a majority of my home-school communication.  I strongly encourage all families to download this app and use it, as it is the quickest way to get information to me from home, and it's also much easier for me to quickly get information to all families.

If you do not care to use ClassDojo, please make sure that I have an accurate phone number where a parent or guardian may be reached.

There may be times when families need to email me.  I check my email periodically throughout the school day, so I do not guarantee a rapid response, but I usually will respond within a few hours.  My email is srouse@duplinschools.net.

 

Student Absences:

As a parent, I know that life happens. As a teacher, I know that repeated absences and tardies have a big impact on student learning. I do not want any student to come to school sick, but I do encourage students to be present and on time as much as possible.  I cannot teach students who are not present.

If your student is absent from my class, they will have any missing work placed in a designated basket.  It is their responsibility to retrieve their missing work from the basket and complete it within 5 school days.  If your student is facing a long term absence (more than 3 days) , please contact me and we will work out a plan to keep your student on track and learning.

 

Prohibited Classroom Items:

Please do not allow your student to bring toys to school. This includes fidget toys, pop its, etc.  If your child has a documented need for fidget toys, please contact me and we will work out a plan. Students will be warned once to put the toy in their bookbag.  After the first warning, I will confiscate the item for the remainder of the day.  If toys continue to be an issue, I will confiscate them and turn them into the front office.

If you send a cell phone to school with your student, please make sure they know it is to be turned off and in their bookbag during the school day unless they are expressly given permission from a school staff member to use it. Students will be warned one time to put phones in their bags. After the first warning, I will confiscate the phone and turn it in to the front office.
